-Every great painting begins with careful observation.-

Dry Media Studio introduces adults to the expressive possibilities of graphite, charcoal, and soft pastel while strengthening the drawing skills that support painting, illustration, and design. Students learn to observe more carefully, simplify complex subjects, and communicate light, form, texture, and atmosphere through intentional mark-making.

Each class begins with a demonstration and Studio Sketch Session before students continue developing larger observational drawings during Creative Studio Time. Throughout the course, students receive individualized coaching, revise their work, and strengthen their artistic decisions through thoughtful critique. Rather than focusing on creating a perfect drawing, students develop the professional habits of observation, practice, revision, and refinement.

The course concludes with a portfolio of observational drawings that demonstrates artistic growth across a variety of subjects and dry media techniques.

The Creative Mind Dry Media Method

Students strengthen their drawing skills through four creative habits.

Observe: Study light, shape, texture, and form before making the first mark.

Explore: Develop confidence through Studio Sketch Sessions that encourage experimentation and thoughtful observation.

Create: Build expressive drawings using graphite, charcoal, and soft pastel to communicate light, atmosphere, and visual storytelling.

Refine: Receive individualized feedback, revise drawings, and strengthen artistic decisions through thoughtful craftsmanship.
